A beautiful wedding map featuring Li Galli island!
Li Galli is privately owned, can be admired on a boat tour, and, who knows, if you listen closely, you may still hear the call of sirens… 🧜♀️⚓️🎶
The Legend of Li Galli:
According to legend, Li Galli is one of three islands forming an archipelago, Gallo Lungo, La Castelluccia, and La Rotonda between Capri and Positano. They were once home to sirens; in fact, Li Galli is also known as Le Sirenuse (from ‘sirena’ in Italian). The strong currents in this stretch of sea often caused boats to crash against the rocks of the islands, although legend attributed the wrecks to the sirens` singing distracting the sailors with their song.
Russian choreographer and dancer Leonide Massine purchased Gallo Lungo in 1919; he converted the old Aragonese Tower into a residence with a dance studio and an open-air theater. Later the islands were purchased by Russian dancer Rudolf Nureyev in 1988, (swoon!) who lived out his life there.
The property has been on and off the market for years; the most recent public listing of the three islands dates from 2011 and the asking price was €195M. It is currently owned by a Sorrento hotelier who rents the villa on Li Galli for only three weeks a season.
This entirely hand-painted watercolour map depicts the Island of Li Galli (including the three legendary sirens), Sorrento, Positano, and Capri, where four days of events will be held celebrating this beautiful couple`s marriage this coming season!
